"Radium Girls"
Women Workers Fight for Justice in Real Life Radium Girls

The powerful, inspiring women portrayed in the true-life stories Silkwood and Erin Brockovich got nothing on the real-life Radium Girls, a brave group of '20s-era women workers who filed the first-ever lawsuit against their employer for knowingly putting their health and safety at risk -- which endangers their reputations, along with their lives. Grace Fryer and about 70 other women were told the chemical mixture they were using to paint luminescent watch dials at the U.S. Radium factory was harmless, when in fact, they were being exposed to devastating levels of radiation. With her health deteriorating, Fryer and the others attempt to take the company to court, only to face a barrage of underhanded tactics by the ruthless corporation. Staged at at the Charlestown Working Theater, this production of Radium Girls, by playwright D.W. Gregory -- a Pulitzer Prize nominee for her work The Good Daughter -- is the first ever with an all-female cast and director.
